Significant changes
- Oral drugs:
- Amoxicillin: duration of treatment for uncomplicated enteric fevers extended (14 days instead of 7 days).
- Cefixime: duration of treatment for uncomplicated enteric fevers extended (10 to 14 days instead of 7 days).
- Ciprofloxacin: “Enteric fevers” indication removed (frequent resistances); duration of treatment in cutaneous anthrax extended, depending on the severity (7 to 14 days instead of 7 to 10 days); indication “Plague” added.
- Injectable drugs:
- Chloramphenicol: “Enteric fevers” indication removed.
- Streptomycin: for plague, used only if gentamicin is not available.
